I have never been one to embrace change all that well, but less than change I hate the mystery of the unknown. I don’t mind busses and at this point I know some people by at least their last names so I’m not alone, but getting into a mysterious white bus and not knowing what will be outside the door when it comes to a stop is maddening. I have all of my new belongings firmly stowed away in a safe place. Firmly alright, since I’m almost choking to death because its all in my lap. I would have never thought that bringing one change of clothing would seem like heavy packing, but it felt now like that was the feather that was turning the scales from one side to the other.
This nerve racking ride is just too much for me to take in. As much as I hate the unknown I would rather live forever in limbo then face whatever was waiting when we did actually stop. I really can’t imagine that Sand Hill is so vast that we must travel 15 minutes to get to our new “home” so we must be doing the whole “drive in circles to confuse the new guys” bit again. No worries here, drive around all day for all I care. For once in my life I can stand to be patient and have no struggles at all doing it. The bus is screeching to a halt. Gosh, here we go again. Just when I think I’m getting used to this bus it has to stop. I can’t even hardly turn my head to see what is waiting for us outside. How long are we going to sit here with the doors closed? Absolutely nobody is saying a word at all. If I had ever wondered what is was like to be a cow loaded on a truck to slaughter, there was no question in my mind anymore. From what I can make out there are little brown hats all over the place outside just bouncing around ready to snap at anything that passes by.
“Get off the Bus” another man in a big round hat calmly says. Of course nobody moves because they are in shock that he sounds somewhat kind at this point. There are Drill Sergeants running around like fuming red ants outside and this guy sounds like he could be our uncle.
False alarm; He is definitely not related to anybody on this bus because he is screaming something about someone’s mom and how much he hates her etc, etc. Its amazing looking back on some of the phrases that I have heard in the past few days. They are all extremely awful but in some way very “artistic” in a way. This man is an artist of words that will provoke fear in just about anybody, and yet we are all just sitting here like he is some type of entertainer.
I’m not sure when it began for me, but if you ask my Mom she would probably tell you it started right from the beginning with me. Two things actually.
a. I have a very strong aversion to authority unless it is well earned and even then I have my hesitations.
b. I am very logical and most things to me are very cut and dry. Put shortly, I have an opinion and you can either choose to believe me or choose to be wrong.
In my mind when someone who is very obviously an authority figure (in this case someone in a big round hat yelling many colorful phrases about how this is their bus and how we should move all of our bodies and belongings to the outside of it) asks you to do something you should probably act quickly to whatever request that they have made. This was one of those situations that just makes you go mentally insane on the inside. Here I am stuck at the back of a crowded bus of guys all holding at least 3 bags a piece and if one of us moves we all feel it. Someone wants us to all get out a tiny door up front, but the first ten rows of the bus are frozen solid with fear. Even if I wanted to there is no way that I could get to the front of this bus.
“YOU HAVE ONE MINUTE TO GET OFF MY BUS!” The drill sergeant all but screams at us. I’m thinking that this is never going to happen, but this was our first assignment of basic training and we were going to try. To my surprise we all got off the bus in what could be the farthest thing from orderly on this planet, but the point is that we had just pulled it off. The second my feet hit the ground someone is screaming in my face to “RUN!” I don’t even have time to look up and see where I’m going, but I do know that I’m following another set of boots so at least I won’t be alone when I get there. Someone is screaming on a megaphone instructions and I can’t even tell what they are saying. I look around to see what everyone else has decided we should be doing and decide to go with standing in a line and dropping nothing on the ground yet. At least if I do what most of the people are doing I can’t be told that I wasn’t being consistent. All I can do is stare at the head in front of me and be as “unnoticeable” as possible. Though at this point I’m not sure that any amount of trying to be discrete is going to work.

ystem) and have loved every minute of it since I upgraded. I won't get into all the new features here for fear of scaring you all away, but one thing I will say is that it is much faster. How many times have you upgraded your computer operating system on a 3 year old computer and had it run faster without upgrading hardware? I hav
e never had that be the case in my short computer nerd history.
